Six bursaries matriculants should know about


Kumba Iron Ore Bursary

This bursary is offered by the Anglo-American corporation and covers registration fees, tuition, study material and accommodation as well as a computer and calculator allowance.

The Kumba Iron Ore bursary is available for students pursuing degrees in the following fields:

  • Mining engineering
  • Metallurgical engineering
  • Electrical engineering (heavy current)
  • Mechanical engineering
  • Industrial engineering
  • Civil engineering
  • Geology (honours)
  • Minerals surveying (BTech)

Requirements for bursaries in pursuit of a degree:

  • Pure maths and science (achievement levels 6 & 7)
  • English (achievement level 5)

Requirements in pursuit of a BTech qualification:

  • Pure maths and science (achievement level 5)
  • English (achievement level 5)

Preference is given to learners from Anglo-American operational local communities (Sishen, Kolomela and Thabazimbi mines).

The Foschini Group Bursary 2017/18

The Foschini Group is a lifestyle retail organisation that includes well-known stores such as American Swiss, Markham, Total Sports, Sportscene and Donna Claire. Bursaries are awarded to deserving students who wish to pursue a three-year BA or BA honours fashion degree at FEDISA, the only tertiary institution in Cape Town that offers this qualification.

The bursary covers tuition fees, prescribed textbooks, design kits, overlocker, sewing machine, clothing, accommodation, room décor allowance, Macbook, required software, a cellphone with data and airtime, printing allowance, transport allowing, coaching and support.

Requirements:

  • A strong academic record.
  • The applicant must have completed maths, arts and design in matric.
  • Must intend to start their course in January.
  • Must be business-minded.
  • Must be creative and have a love for fashion.
